Our mission is to inspire and encourage rural communities to improve their health and wellbeing through physical activity.
Welcome to
Fat Farmers: Rural Health Initiative
It all started back in 2012 when three farmers at Maitland on Yorke Peninsula (SA) started going to the gym. And this original group is still going strong! The below clip shows their Friday morning gym sessions and is a great visual snapshot of what Fat Farmers is all about! Each of our groups has it's own identity. Some are men only but many are inclusive of women and also children. And it's not all about going to the gym. We have a couple of walking groups too...
SA Giving Week, 4-8 May 2026

SA Giving Week has been established to share the light on how impactful 'giving' is.
Every gift, big or small, makes South Australia brighter.
“Without the generosity and support of our community, Fat Farmers would still just be three fat Yorke Peninsula farmers going to the gym. We simply wouldn’t be where we are today.”
— Richard Sheppy, CEO, Fat Farmers
Giving doesn't just need to take place during this week, we welcome donations or volunteering at any time of the year!
